IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to terms with Henry Melton, the third defensive lineman to join them in free agency since the release of franchise sacks leader DeMarcus Ware. A person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press that the team was working on final details of the contract Tuesday night. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because an agreement had not been announced. Melton missed most of last season with Chicago after tearing a ligament in his left knee against Pittsburgh on Sept. 22. He will be reunited with former Bears defensive co-ordinator Rod Marinelli, who now has the same title in Dallas. The fifth-year player was a high school running back in the Dallas area before becoming a defensive tackle with the Texas Longhorns. The 27-year-old Melton has 15 1/2 sacks and 63 tackles in 48 career games, including 32 starts. The Bears drafted him in the fifth round in 2009, and he missed his rookie season with an ankle injury. Melton was arrested in December in Grapevine, where he went to high school, on charges of assault and public intoxication after police say he refused to leave a bar and fought with employees. Police say Melton was accused of punching the bar manager in the face and biting his arm. Meltons agent, Jordan Woy, said at the time that his client didnt start the altercation. The Cowboys released Ware, their star defensive end, just as free agency opened. Defensive tackle Jason Hatcher signed with Washington after leading the Cowboys with 11 sacks last season. A day after Wares release, the Cowboys signed defensive end Jeremy Mincey and defensive tackle Terrell McClain. Mincey is the teams current career leader with 20 sacks, now followed by Melton. Next on this list with 10 is George Selvie, who wasnt even on the Dallas roster when training camp started last season and ended up second to Hatcher with seven sacks on an injury plagued unit. Marinelli came to Dallas a year ago as defensive line coach with then-defensive co-ordinator Monte Kiffin after Lovie Smith was fired in Chicago. He was promoted when Kiffin was reassigned after the Cowboys gave up the most yards in franchise history and finished last in the NFL in total defence. John Stones England Jersey . Playing their third game in as many days, the Bulldogs were a step behind from the opening faceoff and fell 4-1 to the Chicago Wolves in American Hockey League action. Despite the result, Hamilton head coach Sylvain Lefebvre had only praise for his players, who he believed had left everything on the ice over the course of a marathon weekend. "I think we ran out of gas," said Lefebvre. "We had a very tough, physical game last night, and the guys gave everything they had. "Im proud of that group. They emptied the tank, and theyve given us some pretty good hockey so far and battled right to the end." Dimitrij Jaskin and Mark Cundari both had a goal and an assist for the Wolves (23-15-4), who won their second game in as many days while Tyler Shattock and Joel Edmundson also scored. Matt Climie made 21 saves for the win. Christian Thomas had the lone goal for the Bulldogs (20-18-4) while Robert Mayer stopped 40 shots in defeat. Hamiltons offence sputtered for much of the first period, but manufactured the games first threat 11 minute in when Jordan Owens gathered the puck along the boards and found Jarred Tinordi with a centring pass in the high slot. The defenceman drew a move from Climie as he glided to his left, but snapped his shot just over the crossbar. The Wolves produced the games opening goal after Hamiltons Gabriel Dumont was penalized for interference. Chicago peppered the Bulldogs with point shots on the power play and the final one, courtesy of Brent Regner, took a deflection onto the stick of Jaskin, who easily chipped a shot over the near shoulder of Mayer at 14:25. A costly misplay by Mayer allowed the Wolves to double their lead a minute and a half later. Shattock carried the puck along the right boards and fired a weak wrist shot toward the net with teammates headed to the crease. Mayer stopped the effort, but deflected a rebound into the air, where it clipped a defender and slid past him. Chicagos lead swelled to three goals just 1:28 into the second period, with the two teams playing 4-on-4. A giveaway in the neutral zone sprung Alexandre Bolduc, Adam Cracknell and Edmundson on a three-man break, and Edmundson took the final touch on the right wing and fired aa rising wrist shot past Mayer at the far post.dddddddddddd Less than two minutes later, the Bulldogs responded on what seemed to be a harmless rush. Thomas carried the puck into the offensive zone on the left wing with his linemates alongside him, and launched a long-range wrist shot from the top of the circle that beat Climie over the shoulder at 3:24 of the second period. Hamilton appeared to make it 3-2 when a bizarre bounce off of the glass behind the net had the puck bounce off the back of Climie and into his goal. But Bulldog centreman Maxime Macenauer was judged to have touched the puck with a high stick, and the goal was disallowed. Macenauer sought a review of the play by officials, and argued that the incident could have been pivotal for his team. "It was a really close call," he said. "I felt that (the referees) should have reviewed it. Its probably a high stick, but you never know, because I felt that I might have touched it right below the cross bar. "It would have been 3-2 at that point, and it would have changed the game." A potential turning point avoided, the Wolves increased their lead with a fourth goal at 12:02. Nathan Longpre took possession of the puck below the goal line and found an unmarked Cundari with a centring pass. He reacted quickly to snap a wrist shot over the far shoulder of Mayer. Hamilton defenceman Morgan Ellis fell awkwardly into the boards midway through the period and was slow to return to the bench with an upper-body injury. He stayed on the bench for the remainder of the period, but did not return for the third. Lefebvre had not been briefed on the severity of the injury at the time of writing, but indicated that it would likely hold Ellis out of the lineup for some time. The most promising scoring chance of the third fell to Macenauer, who weaved through Chicagos defence pairing before firing a wrist shot off Climies far post. Still pressing for consolation, the Bulldogs were denied by a highlight-reel worthy save by Climie with six and a half minutes to play. Martin St. Pierre protected the puck on the left wing and threaded a pass cross-ice to Owens, whose one-time shot was snared by the sliding Climie. Chicago went 1 for 6 on the power play while Hamilton failed to score on four chances with the man advantage. to replace an injured Carey Price in Game Two had a night to remember,

Each year I look back at the TSN.ca NHL Power Rankings, comparing the preseason to end-of-season results and see what kind of factors contributed to unanticipated results. Injuries, goaltending and unexpected individual performances, both good and bad, tend to play the largest role. Its important to note that the pre-season rankings are not predictions, because they are based on current value of the team, with the understanding that there will be factors throughout the season (trades, injuries, unexpected performances -- both good and bad) that affect results. But if a team has a dramatically different ranking at the end of the season, compared to the beginning, there ought to be some reasons that are evident for that change. Basically, what happened that wasnt necessarily expected in training camp? Here are some of the reasons for differences in rankings between rankings in September, 2013 and those in mid-April, 2014. ANAHEIM DUCKS Pre-Season Rank: 15 Final Rank: 7 Average Rank: 7.16 Whats the Difference?: Shooting percentage is the biggie, as the Ducks scored on a league-best 10.7% of their 5-on-5 score-close shots this season, more than 2.0% better than any other team, so they scored more than I expected. Sure, Getzlaf and Perry are going to be varying degrees of great year after year, but this year, Nick Bonino, Mathieu Perreault and Patrick Maroon, among others, had more productive seasons than forecasted. BOSTON BRUINS Pre-Season Rank:4 Final Rank: 1 Average Rank: 5.64 Whats the Difference?: The Bruins have a stable core, so its no surprise that they finished at or near the top of the rankings, but they rose to the very top because players like RW Reilly Smith and C Carl Soderberg exceeded expectations and then, when D Dennis Seidenberg suffered a season-ending injury, the Bruins defence handled the loss, despite Torey Krug, Dougie Hamilton, Matt Bartkowski and Kevan Miller each having less than 50 games of NHL experience coming into the season. BUFFALO SABRES Pre-Season Rank: 29 Final Rank: 30 Average Rank: 29.84 Whats the Difference?: Not much, only that the Sabres had G Ryan Miller and LW Thomas Vanek on the roster at the start of the season. Once they were moved, which was inevitable, the Sabres were practically assured of finishing 30th in the rankings. CALGARY FLAMES Pre-Season Rank: 28 Final Rank: 21 Average Rank: 23.56 Whats the Difference?: Strangely enough, the Flames reversed the previous seasons results (forecasted for 21st and finished 28th), exceeding expectations even though they didnt get much by way of goaltending, which would be a common way for many teams to surpass the preseason forecast. In the Flames case, they got a Norris-calibre season out of Mark Giordano, and T.J. Brodie continued to improve as his partner. That was probably the biggest factor in the Flames being more competitive, but a number of players -- Mikael Backlund, Sean Monahan, Joe Colborne, Paul Byron -- exceeded expectations. CAROLINA HURRICANES Pre-Season Rank: 22 Final Rank: 22 Average Rank: 22.44 Whats the Difference?: Not much, ultimately. Eric Staal, Alexander Semin and Jiri Tlusty hit a market correction after their percentage-driven ride in 2013, but some Canes countered that. Jeff Skinner scored 33 goals, and D Andrej Sekera was a revelation after coming over from Buffalo. Stellar play from G Anton Khudobin also offset a tough year for Cam Ward. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS Pre-Season Rank: 1 Final Rank: 2 Average Rank: 3.96 Whats the Difference?: Its awfully difficult to take No. 1 from wire to wire, and the Blackhawks had some ups and downs during the year but, in the grand scheme, they are who we thought they were. Some a little better (Patrick Sharp, Brent Seabrook, Ben Smith), some a little worse (Jonathan Toews, Bryan Bickell) but the final product remains a Cup contender. COLORADO AVALANCHEPre-Season Rank: 26 Final Rank: 6 Average Rank: 6.48 Whats the Difference?: Start with G Semyon Varlamov, who was nearly 37 goals better than he was last season, and their rag-tag defence had some solid performances. Erik Johnson started living up to his billing, Tyson Barrie eventually got a chance to play and bargain additions Nick Holden and Andre Benoit were productive enough too. The forwards remain the strength of the team, but if not for Varlamovs goaltending, the rest likely wouldnt have much mattered, considering that the Avalanche were still a bottom-feeding possession team. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS Pre-Season Rank: 18Final Rank: 14 Average Rank: 17.44 Whats the Difference?: The emergence of No. 1 centre Ryan Johansen stands out the most, but the Blue Jackets arent too far off where they were expected to be. Their preseason ranking, minus an injured Nathan Horton, had them on the fringe of a playoff spot and their final ranking, also without Horton, was for a team that made the playoffs by three points. DALLAS STARS Pre-Season Rank: 19 Final Rank: 10 Average Rank: 15.80 Whats the Difference?: It wasnt an utter shock that Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn worked well together, but Seguin breaking through for an 84-point season raised the proverbial bar for the Stars. The rest of the lineup might be underwhelming, but 17 goals from Ryan Garbutt? 14 from Antoine Roussel? Those contributions helped in the final analysis too, because the Stars dont have a clear division of lines behind their top unit. DETROIT RED WINGSPre-Season Rank: 7 Final Rank: 16 Average Rank: 17.88 Whats the Difference?: Well, going without Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg for large chunks of the year was the big difference throughout the season, and while it was somewhat offset by the emergence of so many young players -- Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Tatar, Riley Sheahan, Tomas Jurco etc. -- G Jimmy Howard didnt play to the level that he has in recent seasons either, so the Wings went from being a contender in the preseason to a team just sneaking into the playoffs by seasons end. EDMONTON OILERS Pre-Season Rank: 24 Final Rank: 28 Average Rank: 26.60 Whats the Difference?: Their defence was as bad as expected, but if there was one reason that the Oilers ended up being even worse than forecasted is that, coming into the season, the expectation was that Devan Dubnyk would be able to provide at least average goaltending, as he had previously. That didnt quite happen. They at least addressed the issue, eventually, by acquiring Ben Scrivens and Viktor Fasth. FLORIDA PANTHERS Pre-Season Rank: 30 Final Rank: 29 Average Rank: 28.48 Whats the Difference?: A team that had an 18-year-old No. 1 centre and a 39-year-old starting goaltender lived down to expectations (though not specifically the fault of those two). The Panthers may have received more than expected from D Tom Gilbert and rookie C Nick Bjugstad, but thats offset by a 9-goal season from second-year LW Jonathan Huberdeau. LOS ANGELES KINGS Pre-Season Rank: 3 Final Rank: 8 Average Rank: 7.84 Whats the Difference?: Still a very good team, but had trouble scoring at times, as Justin Williams, Mike Richards and Dustin Brown all scored below their previous norms. Adding Marian Gaborik at the deadline helps somewhat, but Gaboriks numbers didnt take off until he got to L.A., where he finished the year with 16 points in the last 16 games. MINNESOTA WILD Pre-Season Rank: 11 Final Rank: 13 Average Rank: 13.20 Whats the Difference?: It was quite a roller-coaster for the Wild to end up just a couple spots behind the starting point. They reached as high as No. 4, thanks to G Josh Hardings incredible start to the year, but sunk as low as 25 when injuries took Harding, Zach Parise and Mikko Koivu out of the lineup, and had been climbing with Darcy Kuemper in goal, but dipped a little late in the year once Ilya Bryzgalov was next on that goaltending conveyor belt. MONTREAL CANADIENS Pre-Season Rank: 10 Final Rank: 11 Average Rank: 10.60 Whats the Difference?: There werent as many highs and lows for the Habs, as G Carey Price limited their downside this season (particularly compared to last season) and the lineup brought both good and bad. Adding Thomas Vanek to Max Pacioretty on the top line sure helped, but a lot of the secondary sources of offence didnt have great years. Whether it was Lars Eller, Alexander Galchenyuk, Daniel Briere or Rene Bourque, there were enough Habs regulars that didnt produce as much as hoped. NASHVILLE PREDATORS Pre-Season Rank: 27 Final Rank: 18 Average Rank: 19.60 Whats the Difference?: With a strong finish to the year, the Predators actually did much better than expected, despite goaltending being a problem all year, as Pekka Rinne got hurt and, even once he returned to action, Rinne wasnt up to his usual standards. By seasons end, Craig Smith, Ryan Ellis and Nick Spaling were some Predators that fared better than anticipated, while newcomer Calle Jarnkrok quickly made up for the departure of his trade counterpart, David Legwand. NEW JERSEY DEVILS Pre-Season Rank: 20 Final Rank: 15 Average Rank: 20.56 Whats the Difference?: Better than their place in the standings, as they were undone by an awful shootout record, the Devils did have some positives, including a great year for RW Jaromir Jagr, along with some potential exhibited by rookie defencemen Jon Merrill and Eric Gelinas, who werent on the roster to start the year. The other positive, that could have tilted even more, based on playing time, was that G Cory Schneider did ultimately play more than Martin Brodeur. Their ranking might have been even better had Schneider played 55 games instead of 45. NEW YORK ISLANDERS Pre-Season Rank: 17 Final Rank: 27 Average Rank: 25.04 Whats the Difference?: All the positivity of the Islanders 2013 playoff berth went away quickly, but at the start of the year, the Islanders were optimistic enough to trade for Thomas Vanek, sacrificing Matt Moulson and a first-round pick in the process. RW Kyle Okposo was a surprise leading scorer but, by seasons end, his linemates, John Tavares and Vanek, were out of the lineup due to injury and trade, respectively. That left a lot of young players to audition for roles in the future. NEW YORK RANGERS Pre-Season Rank: 14 Final Rank: 9 Average Rank: 15.84 Whats the Difference?: Even though he didnt do much after arriving from Tampa Bay, the addition of Martin St. Louis did raise the Rangers ranking late in the year, but there were others that helped htem exceed expectations. RW Mats Zuccarello led the team in scoring, and LW Benoit Pouliot provided useful forward depth, while backup G Cam Talbot was a pleasant surprise in 21 games (backup goalie not really a factor for a playoff teams ranking, but still noteworthy). OTTAWA SENATORS Pre-Season Rank: 6 Final Rank: 25 Average Rank: 20.64 Whats the Difference?: Just as the Avalanche were the big surprise, the Senators were the big disappointment. Just as Colorado benefitted from great goaltending, the Senators struggled because both Craig Anderson and Robin Lehner regressed hard after both were phenomenal in 2013. Between the pair, they were nearly 36 goals worse than the year before, using Hockey References Goals Saved Above Average. Expectations were so much higher for the Senators this season because D Erik Karlsson and C Jason Spezza, who had both missed much of the previous season, were returning to the lineup and a couple of healthy stars would figure to make a team better. Whats especially remarkable about the fall was that it overshadowed what was a breakout year for C Kyle Turris, who played on a very effective line with new Senators wingers Clarke MacArthur and Bobby Ryan. PHILADELPHIA FLYERS Pre-Season Rank: 13 Final Rank: 12 Average Rank: 20.28 Whats the Difference?: Dug a hole early, and were ranked in the bottom third for the first half of the season, before eventually moving into a ranking more in line with expectations. Hoped for more from C Vincent Lecavalier, but got more from G Steve Mason than they had a reasonable right to expect, and now enter the playoffs as an underdog, though a lively one at that. PHOENIX COYOTES Pre-Season Rank: 25 Final Rank: 19 Average Rank: 13.72 Whats the Difference?: Cruised way above expectations for the first half of the year, but faded, as C Mike Ribeiro had a disappointing year and scoring in general got leaner as the season went on and injuries to C Martin Hanzal and G Mike Smith late in the year pretty much sealed their fate. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS Pre-Season Rank: 2 Final Rank: 4 Average Rank: 5.92 Whats the Difference?: Injuries -- a lot of injuries -- kept the Penguins ranked lower than their starting and finishing point, but they go into the playoffs with Evgeni Malkin back to anchor the second line and Paul Martin and Kris Letang returned late in the year to upgrade the defence. ST. LOUIS BLUES Pre-Season Rank: 5 Final Rank: 5 Average Rank: 2.04 Whats the Difference?: The team that held down the No.1 ranking more than any other, 10 times on top, were on their way to exceeding expectations before a late-season swoon prompted by injuries and a rough patch for G Ryan Miller. SAN JOSE SHARKS Pre-Season Rank: 9 Final Rank: 3 Average Rank: 3.64 Whats the Difference?: While its no surprise that the Sharks are a contender, there were enough players that exceeded preseason forecasts. Joe Pavelski, Tommy Wingels, Jason Demers and James Sheppard were better than they had been previously, while rookies Tomas Hertl and Matt Nieto were also useful contributors (and Hertl returned from injury late in the season), so they go from being ranked as a good team to being ranked as a Cup contender. TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING Pre-Season Rank: 21 Final Rank: 17 Average Rank: 13.16 Whats the Difference?: For good chunks of the season, the Lightning exceeded their forecast, thanks to G Ben Bishop, who is currently hurt, which has dropped Tampa Bay closer to that preseason expectation level. Rookies are ranked conservatively coming into the season, so it figured that the Lightning would exceed expectations with LW Ondrej Palat, C Tyler Johnson, D Radko Gudas, LW J.T. Brown and RW Nikita Kucherov among those playing regular roles. Palat and Johnson, in particular, contributed much more than anticipated. TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS Pre-Season Rank: 16 Final Rank: 26 Average Rank: 17.32 Whats the Difference?: Its not as if the Maple Leafs didnt get some better-than-expected performances -- C Tyler Bozak, LW Mason Raymond and G Jonathan Bernier were all better-than-advertised -- but there was expected regression from LW Joffrey Lupul and C Nazem Kadri and a complete bust year from free agent signee RW David Clarkson. The Leafs were as high as No. 6 a month into the season, before crashing, the first time, and rebounded as high as 15 in the second half of the season before their late-season plummet left them notably worse than forecasted. VANCOUVER CANUCKS Pre-Season Rank: 12 Final Rank: 24 Average Rank: 14.32 Whats the Difference?: Through the first half of the season, the Canucks were consistently ahead of their forecasted ranking, but injuries (Alexander Edler, Henrik Sedin, Alex Burrows, Roberto Luongo all out at times in January) started to add up, the results got much worse and it led the Canucks to trade Luongo to Florida, leaving them with lesser options in goal. WASHINGTON CAPITALS Pre-Season Rank: 8 Final Rank: 20 Average Rank: 17.56 Whats the Difference?: Held okay for a while, but a couple of months into the season, they ran into goaltending problems (though that seemed to be fixed by acquiring Jaroslav Halak) and while there were some nice years from the supporting cast -- RW Joel Ward and LW Jason Chimera stand out -- the Capitals got very little goal production from Marcus Johansson and Martin Erat, leaving them just short of a playoff berth. WINNIPEG JETS Pre-Season Rank: 23 Final Rank: 23 Average Rank: 18.94 Whats the Difference?: Apparently, not much, since they ended where they started. Have a decent core and the addition of rookies C Mark Scheifele and D Jacob Trouba lifted the Jets for a time, but, in the end, G Ondrej Pavelec delivering a .901 save percentage was enough to bring them back into the bottom third of the rankings. TORONTO -- The Boston Bruins, in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons the previous night, stuck to hockey Sunday. Minus the suspended Shawn Thornton, awaiting his punishment for a red mist that saw him send Penguins defenceman Brooks Orpik to hospital on Saturday, the injury-ravaged Bruins rallied to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 on the strength of three second-period goals. Carl Soderberg, Torey Krug, Kevan Miller, Jarome Iginla and Patrice Bergeron -- with an empty-net goal coming out of the penalty box with 11 seconds remaining -- scored for Boston, which came into the game under scrutiny thanks to Thorntons meltdown at TD Garden. The Bruins tough guy is suspended pending a league hearing into his sucker-punch attack. For Iginla, Sundays game was a chance for the Bruins to get back to their game. "It was (good)," he said, choosing his words carefully. "Just to get the focus on just winning a game and playing. Because, yeah, it was pretty emotional. Everybody felt that from (Saturday) night." Thanks to the ugly, violent win over Pittsburgh, the Bruins (20-8-2) were also without the injured Loui Eriksson and Chris Kelly, among others. Defencemen Adam McQuaid and Johnny Boychuk were sidelined with earlier injuries. And the Bruins defensive woes were intensified Sunday when Dougie Hamilton exited after the first period with a lower-body injury after a collision with Leafs blue-liner Carl Gunnarsson. Boston coach Claude Julien said Hamilton was to return home Monday for medical evaluation but was hopeful that Boychuk might be close to returning to the lineup in his absence during the remaining three games of the Canadian road trip. Peter Holland and Jay McClement scored for Toronto (16-12-3) before an announced crowd of 19,165. The Leafs led 1-0 in the first and then cut the lead to 3-2 early in the third before Boston scored two insurance goals. Julien attributed his jury-rigged teams success to the organizations focus on playing a two-way game, whether it be wearing a Boston or AHLs Providence jersey. "The way we play is a very demanding way of playing but we feel our scouts and upper management have done a good job of giving us the types of players who can play that game," he said. "So even with the guys being called up, they play a very similar style back in Providence. And were asking them to do the same thing here. "Its about believing what your teams all about. Going out there and doing it, whether youre a young player or an older player. Our game can never change." The Leafs, who beat Ottawa 4-3 in a shootout Saturday, controlled the early going and led 1-0 after the first. But the Bruins three-goal outburst in the second period, including a pair of power-play goals in a 94-second stretch, left the Leafs in their wake. "The first period it seemed like we had our legs, we were doing a lot of things," said Toronto coach Randy Carlyle. "Then we take the one penalty and their (tying) goal kind of flattened us and the next thing you know were killing (a penalty) again right after. And it was bang-bang, all of a sudden they scored two goals and the life went out of our hockey club." Toronto, which also gave up two power-play goals against the Senators, went 0 for 4 on its power play Sunday. The Bruins, who had to kill off a pair of penalties in the third, outshot the Leafs 39-32. The focus before the game was on Thorntons moment of madness. "I agree, he did cross the line," said Julien. "He got caught in the emotions. Theres nobody thats proud of what happened (Saturday) night. Absolutely not. So hes going to suffer the consequences and so will we." "Thorny did cross the line and some others did too," Julien added. "But sometimes you have to man up to those things and I think he did." Julien saw a woozy Miller leave the game later after being crunched into the boards by Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf. The Boston coach admitted he asked the referee whether it was a penalty. "Its very minor and should impact him playing for us next game but it was a close call -- head first into the boards," said Julien. The Leafs faced Chad Johnson, who was filling in to give Bruins star goalie Tuukka Rask a night off. Jonathan Bernier started for Toronto, after James Reimers 47-save performance in Ottawa. It took the Leafs almost five minutes to get a shot on Johnson but they still showed jump and went ahead at 12:20 when Holland jammed a David Clarkson redirect of a Jake Gardiner shot into a gaping net for his third of the year. Toronto, outshot in 26 of its first 30 games, outshot the Bruins 11-10 in the first period. It took a while before shot No. 12 came, however. And Boston pulled even on the power play at 5:14 of the second period after Reilly Smith found Soderberg alone on the edge of the crease. Torontos Carter Ashton was in the penalty box for delay of game. For Smith, who grew up in nearby Mimico, it was a point in his first appearance at the Air Canada Centre. Twenty seconds after the goal, the Leafs went a man-down again with Gunnarsson sent to the box. And Krug made the Leafs pay with his eighth goal of the season at 6:47, beating Bernier with the hulking Zdeno Chara blocking the goalie in front. Ten of the Bruins 15 power-play goals this season have come from their defencemen. Boston outshot Toronto 8-0 in the second period before the home side finally put a shot on Johnson at 9:57. Defenceman Cody Franson had a good chance from in close with seven minutes remaining but the Bruins goalie made the save. Phaneuf and sniper Phil Kessel ran into each other on a line change, flooring Kessel. It was that kind of period for the Leafs. Smith hit the Toronto crossbar late in the period. Seconds later, Millers wrist shot from the blue-line slipped through Bernier at 15:58. It was his first NHL goal. Boston outshot Toronto 17-9 in the second period. McClement closed the gap to 3-2 just 37 seconds into the third, winning a faceoff in the Bruins end and then driving the Boston goal and slapping in his own rebound for his first of the year. The Bruins had to kill off consecutive penalties to maintain their lead. The Leafs, meanwhile, needed a huge save from Bernier on Jordan Caron to stay within one as the clock wound down. But he was powerless to stop Iginla after Milan Lucic accelerated past Phaneuf and fed Iginla in the crease for his sixth goal at the 16:00 mark. ts longest in-season skid in the proud franchises 69-year history.

UFA, Russia - The NHL-eligible members of Canadas junior hockey team dont know if the lockout will be over by the time they get home. But they agree the world junior championship prepared them well for training camps if they were suddenly summoned to by their respective NHL clubs. "Its been a really intense tournament," said captain Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Edmonton Oilers. "I think its exactly how the start of the season will be." Nugent-Hopkins is the lone NHL player on Canadas team, but forwards Jonathan Huberdeau (Florida), Mark Scheifele (Winnipeg), Ryan Strome (New York Islanders) and Dougie Hamilton (Boston) are among the players likely to be called up if the season commences. Theyre all top-10 NHL draft picks from the class of 2011. "From junior, its such a high step to the NHL, but if there is a stepping stone, it is the world juniors," said Strome, who plays for the Ontario Hockey Leagues Niagara IceDogs. Scheifele agreed. "Its such a strong tournament here and theres so many good players youre playing against," the Barrie Colts forward said. "Theres a lot of guys that could be in the NHL, will be in the NHL soon. That would be a huge thing to build you up for a training camp." In a last-ditch effort to salvage the 2012-13 season, the NHL and players association have been bargaining in New York this week. The Canadian junior players affected have followed the labour drama from Ufa with varying degrees of interest — from not at all to checking for updates on Twitter to reading websites for the latest blow-by-blow in negotiations. "Its kind of hard when youre so removed from everything going on, but Ive tried to stay up to date a little bit," Nugent-Hopkins said. "It looks pretty positive, but who knows right?" Ufa is 11 hours ahead of Eastern time in New York. The Canadians have been asleep when developments in bargaining have happened. It hasnt been in their faces on mainstream radio or television. "You just read about it on Twitter sometimes, but if not, you dont hear anything about it," Huberdeau said. Hamilton, Stromes IceDogs teammate, has taken a wake-me-when-its-over attitude. "Going through the whole process starting in August and hearing the season is going to start next week and it doesnt happen, Im kind of just whenever now," Hamilton said. "When I get an email or phone call saying its over and we want you to come to camp if thats the case for me, then Ill believe it." But when the Canadian team boards the plane Sunday for the trip home, some will wonder where theyll be playing in the next couple of weeks as the NHL lockout nears the point of no return this season. "The potential to go back home in two or three days here and really I dont know where Im going to be, if Im going to be in Niagara, if Im going to be traded from Niagara, if Im going to be in New York, its kind of interesting and something I wasnt expecting," Strome said. He believes any post-tournament, post-travel fatigue would be offset by the excitement of going to an NHL camp. "A lot of time zones, a lot of travel, but the chance to play in the NHL is something that doesnt come along every day," Strome said. "Im still only 19 years old so I can get excited for that." http://www.francenationalshop.com/Samuel-Umtiti-France-Jersey/ . -- James Harden scored 31 points, including 25 in the second half, and the Houston Rockets dug out of a double-digit, first-half hole to beat the Orlando Magic 101-89 on Wednesday night. http://www.francenationalshop.com/Raphael-Varane-France-Jersey/ .The Knicks fell 101-91 to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, giving New York its longest in-season skid in the proud franchises 69-year history. http://www.francenationalshop.com/Eliaqu...-France-Jersey/. PARIS -- A French state prosecutor said Sunday he wants to obtain an alleged mobile-phone video of a skiing accident that critically injured Formula One legend Michael Schumacher. Schumachers fall at the Meribel ski resort in the French Alps eight days ago, in which he hit his head on a rock, has left the 45-year-old in a medically-induced coma for a severe brain trauma. Questions have emerged about the circumstances of the accident, and Schumachers manager, Sabine Kehm, announced Saturday that his family has given French authorities a camera affixed to his helmet to help elucidate the case. Albertville prosecutor Patrick Quincy told The Associated Press by phone that French investigators are also taking steps to obtain a copy of a smartphone video cited in a report by German news magazine Der Spiegel. Quincy declined to comment further before he holds a planned news conference sometime in mid-week. Spiegel reported late Saturday that an unnamed 35-year-old man had contacted the magazine claiming to have captured the accident on video while filming his girlfriend on his smartphone just a few meters (yards) away. The unnamed witness, described only as a 35-year-old flight attendant from the western German city of Essen, claimed Schumacher had been skiing gently between two ski pistes at no more than 20 kilometres per hour (12 mph) before his fall. The magazine didnt show the video on its website, nor claim that its reporters had seen it. Spiegel said the witness told them he planned to hand the video to prosecutors. Also Sunday, Schumachers brother Ralf and father Rolf returned to the Grenoble hospital where he has been receiving care. Schumacher is the most successful F1 driver in history, racking up a record 91 race wins. He retired from Formula One in 2012 after garnering an unmatched seven world titles. Schumi, as his fans affectionately call him, was famously aggressive on the track and no less intense off-hours. In retirement, he remained an avid skier, skydiver and horseback rider. The assistants greeted Aldridge with compliments and high fives. Stotts had only one word for his high-scoring forward: "Thanks." Aldridge had 25 points and 16 rebounds in his return after missing seven games with a lower back contusion, and the Trail Blazers beat the Atlanta Hawks 100-85 on Thursday night to end a three-game losing streak. "It felt good to be back," Aldridge said. "I didnt feel 100 per cent but I did what I could do and luckily I made shots." Damian Lillard added 21 points for the Trail Blazers, who had lost seven of 10 and were in danger of falling out of the fifth spot in the Western Conference playoff standings. Lillard said Aldridge, who posted his team-leading 37th double-double of the season, made the difference. "Were a whole different team with him," Lillard said. "Hes our best player. He brings balance to our team. We had an inside presence and we were able to play inside-out, like we have all year. I just think with him out there we just got more quality shots. "Having him back allows everybody to fall into place. The game just comes easier for everybody." Aldridge said the win was "very important, just for our mental psyche, our confidence ... the standings." The Hawks have lost five straight. They lead the Knicks by only 1 1/2 games in the race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Jeff Teague, who was scoreless in Wednesday nights loss at Minnesota, led the Hawks with 22 points. Lou Williams had 16 points, including 13 in the final period when Atlanta closed the deficit to six points. Atlantas Kyle Korver missed his fifth straight game because of back spasms and centre Pero Antic sat out after he twisted his right ankle at Minnesota. The Trail Blazers led 53-37 at halftime. The Hawks nnarrowly avoided their season low for points in the opening half.dddddddddddd. Atlanta opened the second half with a 15-5 run, capped by DeMarre Carrolls 3-pointer, to trim the lead to 58-52. Williams had eight points in Atlantas 10-0 run that again cut Portlands lead to six points at 80-74. A three-point play by Aldridge pushed the lead back to double digits at 87-76. Korver, the 3-point specialist, has not played since March 18, when Atlanta beat Toronto for its fifth straight win. The Hawks have not won since losing Korver. Its only the latest in a string of ugly losing streaks for Atlanta the last two months. Atlanta has lost 19 of 25 and had streaks of eight and six straight losses in that span before the latest slump. Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said "there were stretches where we really competed" against the Trail Blazers. "We cut some leads and got it to six at one point," Budenholzer said. "The whole group, in trying times and trying circumstances, has given a lot. Jeff Teagues energy throughout the game allowed us to be close. Were finding ourselves. We need to be disciplined and focused. In those stretches where were not, it can hurt us and it can bite us." Portland closed each of the first three periods with 3-pointers -- by Mo Williams, Wesley Matthews and Lillard. Officials needed a review to confirm there was time remaining in the first half when Matthews launched his long 3. Nicolas Batum had 12 points for Portland and Robin Lopez and Matthews each had 11. Mo Williams had 11 assists and eight points. NOTES: The Trail Blazers, who beat Atlanta 102-78 in Portland on March 5, won their first season series over the Hawks since the 2007-08 season. ... Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson attended the game. ... Elton Brand had 11 points and 12 rebounds as the fill-in starter for Antic... INDIANAPOLIS - Pacers coach Frank Vogel says the Pacers need to be better offensively and become more versatile defensively to play for a championship next season. Vogel still believes Indiana can get there without overhauling the roster. The Pacers have already answered one key question: Vogel will return as coach. When asked if his appearance Monday was indicative he would be back next season, Vogel simply said: "Yes." Now comes the hard part. First, the Pacers must determine whether to re-sign Lance Stephenson, who becomes a free agent in July, and how much the Pacers are willing to spend to bring him back. NFL Fans Cheap Jerseys . LISBON, Portugal -- Atletico Madrids only previous European Cup final appearance branded the club with the nickname that has come to encapsulate its penchant for misfortune. Beating Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday may finally put that moniker to rest. Atletico was on the cusp of winning the European Cup on its first appearance in the final in 1974, leading Bayern Munich 1-0 in extra time after Luis Aragones curled home in the 114th-minute at Heysel Stadium. The Spanish club was clinging on until defender Hans-Georg Schwarzenbeck stepped up to smash home a powerful right-footed equalizer from outside the area in the 120th-minute. Without penalties to decide the champion, a replay was scheduled just two days later in Brussels. But having experienced the title slipping from its grasp in such fashion proved too much for Atletico, and it lost 4-0 to a team featuring Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Mueller. Following the defeat, president Vicente Calderon termed Atletico "the jinxed ones" or "pupas." "We practically had the trophy in our hands," said Atletico goalkeeper Miguel Reina, father of Spain international Pepe, reminiscing of what could have been before Schwarzenbecks low shot beat him. The loss seems to have had a long-lasting effect on the club. "Atleticos history may have been different with that title, which was the first for Bayern," said former striker Jose Eulogio Garate, who played in that final 40 years ago. Atleticos history is filled with success and clouded by unnecessary turmoil and disorder. Such is Atleticos knack for dramatics that the team hymn includes the phrase: "What a Way to Suffer." One of the most famous advertising campaigns in Spain featured a young child looking up at his father to ask "Daddy, why do we support Atleti?" The father looks off in thought before the phrase "Its hard to explain" takes over the screen. During its Spanish league title winning run this season, Atletico did the near unthinkable -- it did not stumble or implode as might have been expected. Instead, coach Diego Simeones team showed the verve of a champion and a knack for coming through when it counted to secure a fourth major trophy since 2009/10 -- following two Europa League titles and a Copa del Rey. "The club is growing. Were pushing forward, building a stronger team, getting better -- despite the economic differences in this league," said Simeone, who has also relied on one of the top qualities of the 1974 team -- strength on the counter attack. Atletico won the Intercontinental Cup after Bayern spurned its invite, and it has an impressive trophy haul overall: 10 Spanish league titles, 10 Copa del Reys, one Cup Winners Cup, two Europa Leagues and two European Super Cups. "Its been seven or eight years now that pupas doesnt follow us anymore," Atletico president Enrique Cerezo said after the club secured its first league title since 1996 last Saturday. "When Calderon labeled the team that, it certainly was at that time. Maybe now they should call us the good luck ones." That could be difficult as Atletico almost seems to embrace the nickname at times, like when it celebrated the 40th anniversary of its lone European Cup final defeat last week. "Atletico does represent something different, something special," said Spanish coach Javier Irureta, who played against Bayern. "Usually they only organize homages for champions, not for the losers. "But the club is like that." Wholesale Jerseys .com) - Northern Iowa running back David Johnson has made a career of playing his best games in the biggest games. Pacioretty insisted Monday that Shanahan compared the hit to the one Pittsburghs Matt Cooke put on Marc Savard, which left the Boston centre with a severe concussion. Shanahan has denied comparing the two incidents. "We didnt bring it up, (Shanahan) brought it up," said Pacioretty. "You can ask my agent (Alec Schall). He was on the phone. Ask the GM (Pierre Gauthier). It happened." Pacioretty has finished serving a three-game suspension for the hit and will return to the Canadiens lineup for a game Tuesday night against Columbus. The Montreal winger cut into the middle of the ice to put a big, high hit on Letang during a game last week in Pittsburgh. Letang suffered a broken nose and was left dazed by the blow. Two seasons ago, Savard was flattened by Cookes blindside shot to the head. "In the back of my mind its a completely different hit," Pacioretty said.dddddddddddd "Savards a lefty coming across. He has no idea Cookes coming from the other side of the ice. "Im not trying to get into comparisons, but they (the NHL) compared it to that and we compared it to (Tampa Bays Ryan) Malone on (Montreals Chris) Campoli. Every hits different. Thats what makes this tough. There is always going to be that grey area. Theyre doing the best they can to crack down, but its not consistent." Pacioretty said Letang saw him coming and had time to protect himself, and that there should not have been a suspension. Shanahan said on Montreal station TSN Radio 990 last week that while he mentioned that the Cooke hit was part of what moved the NHL to crack down on headshots, he specifically told Pacioretty and the Canadiens he did not compare his hit to Cookes. He said Pacioretty may have been in an emotional state at the time and "wasnt intentionally lying" about the Cooke comparison. "I said very clearly, I am not comparing it to Cooke-Savard," he said. LARNACA, Cyprus -- Diana Matheson, Adriana Leon and Kaylyn Kyle scored for Canada in a 3-1 victory over Italy at the Cyprus Cup on Friday. Canada improved to 2-0 with the win after shutting out Finland 3-0 in the tournament opener two days earlier. Matheson opened the scoring against the Italians by converting a cross in the 33rd minute. She then fed Adriana Leon for a tap-in goal 10 minutes later. Early in the second half, Rhian Wilkinson crossed the ball to Kyle who scored from close range to make it a three-goal game. "We just started to press them more and once we started pressing them, we were able to win the ball higher up the field," Matheson said. Cristiana Girelli scored Italys lone goal in the 51st minute. The game was chippy at times. Canadian midfielder Sophie Schmidt was bloodied after appearing to take an elbow to the face but was in good spirits afterwards with a bandage on her cheek. Italys Elisa Bartoli was handed two yellow cards by the referee. The first came after she tripped up Canadas Christine Sinclair and the second came later in the game after she plowed into Matheson. Canadian coach John Herdman was pleased with how his team responded to the aggressive style of play. "The Italians were relentless with their pressure and when you skip a tackle, theyll leave a foot in and bring you down," he said. "And I was pretty pleased with how the girls got a bit testy as well and decided to try and match that pressure and physical intensity." Canada, which is currently ranked seventh in the world, will wrap up preliminary-round play Monday against No. 11 England at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia. A tie puts Canada into the final and will see England relegated to second in the group as Canada has more goals scored. Asian tour event formerly called the Ballantines Championship,

LOS ANGELES -- Steve Blake will be out at least six weeks with a torn ligament in his right elbow, leaving the Los Angeles Lakers without all three of their injured point guards. Blake was hurt Nov. 26 in Washington, but kept playing until the Lakers team doctors diagnosed the tear this week. He has been starting in the absence of Steve Nash and Jordan Farmar, averaging 9.8 points and 7.7 assists in a strong season. "Its still a little bit in shock right now that Im having another injury and having to sit out," Blake said Thursday before the Lakers flight to Oklahoma City to open a four-game trip. "I was really enjoying the way things were going, so it is tough." Blakes injured ligament is typically repaired by the so-called Tommy John surgery in baseball players. Blake said he wont have surgery, but will attempt to return this season with rest and platelet-rich plasma injections. Blake played 39 minutes against Phoenix on Tuesday night, finishing with nine points and 10 assists. He has logged heavy minutes without Nash, who has been out since Nov. 10 with nerve root irritation, and Farmar, who tore his left hamstring Dec. 1. "Three (point guards), you would think, would be plenty enough to get you through the year," Blake said. "For all of us to be out at the same time is pretty rare, I think." Kobe Bryant, who just returned two games ago from an eight-month absence with a torn Achilles tendon, will fill in at point guard alongside Jodie Meeks. The Lakers (10-11) have fallen back below .500 after losing three of their last four, including both games with Bryant, who expressed wonder at Blakes ability to play so long with the injury. "We just got Kobe back, so I was looking forward to trying to get us all on the court and figuring things out," Blake said. "The one thing is, I will be back before the season is over, and I hope to finish the year strong, help us get into the playoffs and go from there." The Lakers didnt immediately sign another point guard to take pressure off Bryant and Meeks, but theyll likely play at least two weeks before Farmar returns. The two-time NBA champion was having a strong comeback season in his native Los Angeles, averaging 9.2 points and 4.4 assists as a backup, before getting hurt in a game against Portland. The 39-year-old Nash has given little indication his condition is improving despite constant rehabilitation work. The two-time MVP will rehab in Vancouver while the Lakers are on the road. Injuries are nothing new for Blake, who missed more than two months of last season with a torn abdominal muscle that required surgery in December 2012, allowing him to play in just 45 games. He also missed a chunk of the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season with torn cartilage in his ribs. "You feel sorry for him," Lakers coach Mike DAntoni said. "Hes worked so hard and played so hard. Its a testament to his courage and toughness that he played about four or five games with a torn ligament in his elbow for shooting. He practiced left-handed, and then he would play right-handed. I hate it for him, but weve got enough players here. Well just have to close ranks and get it done." http://www.portugalnationalshop.com/Ricardo-Quaresma-Portugal-Jersey/ . - Even with his surgically repaired back still nowhere near perfect, defending champion Andy Murray needed only 73 minutes to beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-4, 6-1 at the Sony Open on Tuesday and set up a quarterfinal with Novak Djokovic. http://www.portugalnationalshop.com/Customized/ . Panuphol, ranked just 451st in the world, was a stroke ahead of a group of four golfers in second -- Scott Jamieson, David Lipsky, Kim Byung-jun and local favourite Quincy Quek. The tournament, a co-sanctioned European and Asian tour event formerly called the Ballantines Championship, was moved from South Korea to Singapore just three weeks ago after it lost its title sponsor and the promoter failed to reach an agreement with a suitable golf venue. Defending champion Brett Rumford of Australia was in joint-64th place after a 70, level with Frances Alexander Levy, who won his maiden European Tour title Sunday at the China Open. The 21-year-old Panuphol earned his best European Tour result late last year when he finished tied for 18th at the Hong Kong Open. But hes missed his last three cuts on the Asian Tour. "I didnt see it coming but it did come," he said of his 63 on Thursday. "Im feeling good about my game right now. I wwas just trying to hit straight out there.dddddddddddd I managed to hole a lot of putts and a lot of them were unexpected." Jamieson, who won his first European Tour title last year at the Nelson Mandela Championship in South Africa, also had nine birdies in his round, including a difficult chip shot from the bunker on the par-3 No. 17, his eighth hole. He had one bogey on the par-4 16th. "Ive been hitting the ball well the last couple of weeks, so it was nice to get a round where it all came together," he said. "There was just the one mistake with the three-putt on 16, but it was pretty far away and pace putting is always difficult in Asia with the grain. Its not what someone from Scotland is used to." Panuphols countryman, Arnond Vongvanij, was in a share of the lead at 9 under until taking a double bogey on No. 8, his 17th hole, to fall back to a share of sixth place on 65. Spains Rafa Cabrera-Bello, who has three top-10 finishes this year, was another shot back in a group at 6 under. 4. Mine That Bird – 2009Mine That Bird makes this list not only for being the second-biggest upset winner in Derby history at an insane 50-1, but also for mounting a classic comeback with astounding speed and skill. This birds eye view video below is the perfect way to watch the gelding find a nearly imperceptible bit of space and slide up the rail almost unnoticed. And once Mine That Bird found an opening, the rest was raw power.3. Unbridled – 1990After falling all the way down to 11th place at the halfway mark, things didnt look good for this 11-1 shot. But true to its name, this horse could not be constrained, and mounted a legendary charge, eventually winning the race by four lengths. Amazingly, Unbridleds insane comeback wasnt even the most entertaining part of this race. For that youll have to watch trainer Carl Nafzger screaming in the face of the horses 92-year-old owner Frances Genter: "Hes taking the lead! Hes gonna win! Hes the winner! He won it! Oh, Mrs. Genter, I love you!!!" 2. Grindstone – 1996Easily one of the closest races in Derby history, the 1996 running featured Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey at arguably his finest moment, guiding Grindstone, the son of Unbridled, to an unforgettable finish. Bailey had dropped as far back as 15th place in the early going before taking his colt way outside for a stretch drive showdown with Cavonnier that saw Grindstone somehow eke out the victory on the final stride of the race.1. Secretariat – 1973.The horse, the myth, the legend. Secretariat was a heavy favourite going into the race, but he was astonishingly sluggish out of the gate. A minute into the race, Shecky Greene was the frontrunner, with Secretariat in sixth place. Despite the slow start, Secretariat came through late, scoring a Kentucky Derby record time of 1:59 2/5 that stands to this day. The cause of his blazing speed? After Secretariats death in 1989, an autopsy revealed that his heart was almost two-and-a-half times larger than that of the average horse.TSN airs the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby today (Saturday, May 3) at 4 p.m. ET. He says so-called TRT is only one problem and he wants to go even further than the ban. "Its about time," St-Pierre told reporters at a promotional event in Montreal on Friday. "I think its a good thing." The commission voted unanimously in Las Vegas on Thursday to quit granting therapeutic use exemptions for fighters undergoing TRT. "Its not the UFC (thats) the problem," said St-Pierre. "I believe its the sport, the system." St-Pierre added he thought the ban is a move in the right direction. "I believe theres a lot more things to do. I believe they need to allow testing too -- testing by an organization that doesnt have any interest in the money surrounding the fight." St-Pierre said the decision by Nevada state regulators is "great for a lot of guys -- good, honest guys will be happy." The decision by the commission that regulates boxing and mixed martial arts in Nevada came several weeks after the Association of Ringside Physicians labelled so-called "unmerited testosterone" a health risk for athletes who practise combat sports. UFC president Dana White said he also supported the Nevada ruling and encouraged all athletic commissions to adopt the ban. "We believe our athletes should compete based on their natural abilities and on an even playing field," he said in a statement. White also said the UFC would honour the ruling in international markets, "where due to a lack of governing bodies, the UFC oversees regulatory efforts for our live events." Several UFC fighters have been granted exemptions in recent years to use testosterone before their bouts, ostensibly for medical reasons. The decision is already having effects on UFC. Vitor Belfort, who usedd TRT, dropped out of his upcoming middleweight title shot against Chris Weidman.dddddddddddd As for his own future in the UFC, St-Pierre wasnt telling reporters much, except to say that hes in the best condition hes ever been in his life. The 32-year-old suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder and did not sleep much for about a decade. "Whats changed is that Im sleeping better," he said. "Before I slept around five hours a night because of stress, but now Im around seven hours and thats made a big difference in my life." St-Pierre said hes living a more healthy lifestyle, the stress is gone and hes happier. He took a break from UFC last December for personal reasons and still hasnt decided whether he will return to the octagon. "I dont know if Im going to stop," St-Pierre said. "I dont know what Im going to do. I need a bit of time to decide what Im going to do." But he hasnt completely ruled out a career in the movies, after getting a small part as the villain Batroc the Leaper in the upcoming "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." "I dont know if Im ready to do that full-time," he said. "I dont know if Im a good actor." St-Pierre said he may have to come on as a bad guy in the ring, but thats whats necessary in his sport. "I dont believe in bad persons," he said. "I believe people are shaped by their genetic environment. "Some people say they look at a serial killer and say hes a bad person. Hes not a worse person than you are because he had been shaped by his genetic and social environment and that makes him what he is -- thats what I believe." The former champ may have hinted at his future Friday as he spent almost an hour coaching a group of 18 enthusiastic amateurs in the finer arts of ultimate fighting. The group included a number of winners of a cross-Canada contest by Bacardi Canada, one of St-Pierres main sponsors. INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- Luol Deng was surprised. His mom was shaken. After learning he had been traded from the Chicago Bulls to Cleveland, Deng said the most difficult aspect of knowing he would no longer be playing for the Bulls after nine seasons wasnt packing his bags or saying goodbye to teammates. The hardest part was explaining to his mom, Martha, he had to move. "She couldnt understand why," he said. "She feels like Im a nice guy, I get along with everybody, so I had to explain to her. She was asking me, Are you not playing well? Whats going on? That was the hardest part." Its gotten a little easier. Deng began a new chapter in his NBA career on Wednesday when he practiced with the Cavaliers for the first time. Cleveland acquired the two-time All-Star small forward Tuesday from the Bulls in exchange for centre Andrew Bynums salary cap-friendly contract and future draft picks. Deng said he didnt see the trade coming. The 28-year-old knew a deal was always possible and an end to his run with the Bulls was inevitable, but it caught him off guard. "Ive been very lucky," he said. "Not a lot of guys can say theyve been with one organization for too long. I was definitely surprised. You hear stuff, you hear rumours, but some of its true and some of its not. When it happened, I couldnt believe it. It took a while to hit me. But its not like Im stopping from playing basketball. Ive been traded from one great organization to another one." The Cavs are counting on Deng to make a difference on and off the floor. A dependable scorer, solid defender and leader, Deng brings a winning attitude to a young Cleveland team undergoing growing pains. "Hes a veteran whos still in his prime," said coach Mike Brown. "He adds to the culture of what were trying to do here. Hes definitely a two-way player that can add an amount of professionalism, a maturity, and winning ingredients to any ball club." Brown said Deng, who averaged 19 points and 6.9 rebounds, will likely start Friday night when the Cavs open a five-game road trip in Utah. The trip will help Dengs transition. "Its great for him to get to know us, soon and better, and for us to get to know him," Brown said. "So you couldnt ask for it to happen at a better time." During his first interview with Cleveland media members, Deng flashed his wide smile and charmed reporters while recounting the whirlwind 36 hours since the trade was completed. Deng recently turned down a contract extension from the Bulls, whose season shifted from contention to rebuilding after star point guard Derrick Rose was injured. Several of his former teammates expressed disappointment in seeing him leave, and Deng said it was tough knowing he wont play with them again. "Its basketball at the end of the day, and its my job," he said. "But the hardest thing is those are friends. Its really hard when you wake up the next day and know that your friend is gone and hes going to be competing against you. I think they understand the business part of it. Its a contract thing, and my time has come up. Thats the direction the organization chose to go." Deng is in the final year of his contract worth $14 million this season and is eligible for free agency this summer. Hes willing to discuss a long-term contract with the Cavs, who are just 12-23 and currently out of playoff position. "Im definitely open to talking about it," he said. "I have no problem with that." Deng said he felt like a "college kid" and was amazed as he toured Clevelands lavish training complex for the first time. "Youve got a food place and a chef there the whole time," he said. "You pick whatever you want, then youve got a TV and a hot tub, cold tub. I was caught up with that." When it came time to practice, Deng had to wear No. 8, but afterward he convinced Cavs rookie guard Matthew Dellavedova to give him No. 9, which he has worn his whole career. "We sat in the locker room for a little while looking at each other. It was almost like we were about to break up," Deng said with a laugh. "It was really hard, but hes such a nice guy. He gave up the number. Im definitely going to have to pay him back for that." Deng explained No. 9 has special meaning for him. "Im one of nine kids," he said. "I always wore nine for my mother because she gave birth nine times. It was always my payback to her." Hampus Lindholm and Matt Beleskey scored for the Ducks, who were coming off a 6-2 loss to Toronto on Tuesday, which snapped their seven-game winning streak. Beleskeys winner came 8:33 into the third period, his 15th goal of the season. David Desharnais scored for the Canadiens, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Carey Price gave up two goals on 23 shots. The Canadiens lost after honoring longtime captain Saku Koivu with a tribute before the game. Koivu played his first 13 seasons with Montreal, missing almost all of the 2001-02 season while he battled non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He retired in September after spending his last five seasons with the Ducks. During a speech on the ice, he thanked fans, former teammates and the doctors who helped him beat cancer and offered condolences to the family of Canadiens legend Jean Beliveau, who died two weeks ago, saying Beliveau represented to him what the captain of a hockey team should be. Max Pacioretty, Montreals leading scorer, left the game in the third period after he was checked from behind into the boarrds by Anaheim defenseman Clayton Stoner.dddddddddddd Pacioretty was several feet from the boards in the Ducks zone when he was hit from behind by Stoner after releasing a pass. The check sent Pacioretty flying into the glass, with his head area appearing to strike first. He was on the ice for a bit before skating slowly off the ice with 15:40 remaining in the period. Stoner was not whistled for a penalty on the play but got a five-minute major a little later after fighting Brandon Prust. Lindholms slap shot from the high left side gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead 8:16 into the game, beating Price into the top of the net. After a scoreless second period, Desharnais tied the game for Montreal on a power play at 5:27 of the third with a one-timer from the right side off Andrei Markovs pass. The Ducks re-gained the lead four seconds after a power play expired when Beleskey, moving through the right circle, swept a one-timer into the top of the net off Rickard Rakells pass from behind the blue line. Game Notes The Ducks are 3-1 on a five-game road trip that finishes Friday in Ottawa ... Montreals next game is also against Ottawa on Saturday. The Canadiens are 3-1 on a five-game homestand. The Detroit Red Wings will open the month of December without the services of forward Justin Abdelkader. According to TSN’s Aaron Ward, Abdelkader is expected to miss two weeks with a partially separated shoulder suffered Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks. The 27-year-old was injured late in the second period on Saturday after taking a hit from Canucks defenceman Luca Sbisa. He did not return for the third period. In 24 games with the Red Wings this season, Abdelkader has scored seven goals and added eight assists. Richie Incognito Bills Jersey . Cordy Glenn Bills Jersey . Tuukka Rask got the 22nd shutout of his career -- probably one of the easiest -- Gregory Campbell and Loui Eriksson scored second-period goals and the Bruins shut down the Capitals 3-0 on Thursday night.WINNIPEG -- Getting an NHL team back was enough of a high for 2011-12, but fans and the team are expecting more as the Winnipeg Jets enter their second season. Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff made that clear months ago when his team finished out of the playoffs last season. "Its a sport that we play for the fans. . . We would expect nothing less than expectations continue to grow each and every day," he said. This season, they want to snag the playoff berth that seemed tantalizingly close at times last year. Theyve added a little size and little experience, but Jets version 2.2 doesnt look a lot different from last year, so whether they achieve that goal or not remains a big question mark. It likely doesnt hurt their chances that realignment has been shelved for another season. Although the Jets finished fourth in the Southeast Division, they had a division-leading 32 points and 14-6-4 record against Southeast rivals. And they arent particularly bummed out by travel prospects in what is already a very tight schedule. "It is what it is and its not that bad," coach Claude Noel said. "I really like the way it closes up in April with the homestand." The Jets play six straight home games from April 6-April 20, two on the road and then return for their final regular-season game April 25 against Montreal. The Jets have to look inside, not outside, as they prepare for this season, Noel suggests. "When you look at all the numbers and you look at the way we performed last year, there were some glaring areas that we have to be better. . . "If were going to find solutions to the problems that we have, then lets address the problems and lets find solutions to these problems, the schedule is what it is." So what are the problems? No. 1 on the list seems to be defence. The Jets allow too many shots -- quality shots -- on their own net. Their defence, in particular Dustin Byfuglien, is great on offence. Byfuglien tied for second in the league in scoring by a defenceman and overall the defence was No. 5 in scoring in 2011-12. Despite ranking near the top of the list in the number of saves he managed, goalie Ondrej Pavelecs percentages were well down in the pack, in part because he just faced too many shots. There are no big changes in personnel this season on defence, although the Jets have a hole to fill early with Zach Bogosian still recovering from wrist surgery. Instead, Noel is trying to make the players he has more alertt to whats going on around them when coming back and in certain key areas to prevent quality shots.dddddddddddd Problem No. 2, home versus away. The Jets were a solid 23-13-5 at home last season. The MTS Centre is sold out for every game, fans are loud and proud and the energy is palpable. Almost every team does better playing at home but 14-22-5 on the road isnt a path to the playoffs. Washington (16-21-4) and Detroit (17-21-3) were the only sub .500 road teams that qualified last season. The Jets scored 122 goals at home last season, good enough for eighth in the league. They let in 100 and their power-play was ranked No. 2. On the road, they scored 99 goals but, perhaps even more telling they gave up 142, the second worst number in the league, which again points to the need to improve defensively. Their power play ranked a dismal 28th. With four players scoring 50 points or better last season, the Jets clearly have an offence, but they also need to perform well no matter where they play. New addition Olli Jokinen had 61 points with the Flames, so he improves the odds significantly. Problem No. 3, youth. With youth comes inexperience and the Jets were a fairly young team. Now, not quite so much. Evander Kane may be just 21 but it looks like hes on a line with Jokinen, whose 34 years and more than 1,000 NHL games help tilt the scales. Not that Kane was ineffective last year as Winnipegs No. 2 scorer, with a personal-best 30 goals. But the Jets need even more from him if they want to play past April. Alexei Ponikarovsky, 32, also has been added to the offence and could be playing alongside Alex Bumistrov, 21, on the teams third line. Mark Scheifele, still just 19, is trying to crack the lineup but the field is getting pretty crowded with the addition just this week of husky fourth-line winger Anthony Peluso. Players like Blake Wheeler, last years scoring leader in Winnipeg, just seem to keep getting better but Noel also wants to see a mental change in the rest of his team this season. "I would just like us to start walking and behaving like winners," he said. "Weve got to go in expecting to win on the road, expecting things, more from each other on the road. Thats the attitude difference that Id like us to start thinking about. "But a lot of that is earned. Teams that are constantly above the line and in the playoffs, that just becomes a normal every-day existence for them. We havent reached that point yet." The Legend of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask has always stood apart from the other 3D Zelda games. After the almost universal crowd pleaser that was Ocarina of Time — the game that essentially reinvented the Zelda series into 3D — Majora's Mask arrived in 2000 as an odd, alt-universe side storyNBA 2K17 MT . With a time travel mechanic that had players repeat a series of three days in order to avert a horrific apocalypse, there was somber streak to the game. Sure, you could be the hero — but only after you saw the end of the world a few dozen times.

That experience — innovative, slightly weird and definitely different for a series that plays it safe with its core formula — will arrive in a few short weeks on the Nintendo 3DS. From what I played in a long hands-on session yesterday, the game has held up beautifully over time. As with Wind Waker HD last yearBuy NBA 2K17 MT, Nintendo has made a few small but important tweaks to Majora's Mask, in order to help it along with the almost 15-year gap since its original release. The graphics are cleaner and nicer
